Love your enemies

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” Matthew 5:44
When I was a new Christian, every thing seemed easy. I took every word that was preached to me, and God was on top of my priorities. I am being challenged again these days. Why am I so easily annoyed at people’s comments? Why am I not open to others as much as I used to be?
True that during my Christian walk, I have faced some disappointments and bitterness. But have I forgiven those who were against me? Who has probably said something offensive to me? Who acted not in the ways that “I” would have liked? Or is it probably just me who has been oversensitive and got offended at them?
Nevertheless, the bible says to LOVE my enemies. And it goes further to “PRAY” for those who spitefully use and persecute me. It is a strong command, and definitely not an easy one. But I am going to try to put that into practice.
My prayer is that I can always “love” those who are my enemies. Let my attitude show love, not bitterness. Let my words speak kindness, not hatred. And it is only God, in me, who can help me do that.
Amen.
